Veteran columnist Mary Theresa Schmich discusses how Facebook became a great place for sources and story ideas.

Schmich attended journalism school at Stanford. She worked as a reporter at the Peninsula Times-Tribune in Palo Alto, CA, at the Orlando Sentinel, and has been at the Chicago Tribune since 1985. In 1992, she started writing a column for the Tribune. She left for a year to attend Harvard on a Nieman Fellowship for journalists and then returned to the column in 1996. For the last 25 years, she was the writer for the “Brenda Starr” comic strip until its final publication in January 2011.

Recorded Thursday, June 9, 2011 at Columbia College Chicago’s Film Row Cinema.
