Join us for the second annual South Side Youth Poetry Duo Slam, featuring poets from multiple South Side high schools, elementary schools, and community organizations.

This poetry event attempts to break many of the negative stereotypes people have about the South Side of the city and the people who live and work there. The students who compete in this event are required to write poems between two and three minutes long with another person and perform the poem in front of their peers and audience members. The poems are scored, and the pair with the highest score wins. Even though it is a competition, the most important part of the event is having students from various schools and neighborhoods find commonality through the words and experiences conveyed in each other’s poems.

This event is hosted by Tim Stafford, who is a teacher and spoken-word poet. It will be deejayed by DJ Itch. This event is made possible with the support of Young Chicago Authors.
