The name of former Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich remains in a prominent spot along the Bishop Ford expressway. But that looks to be changing soon.

A grain elevator for the Illinois International Port District still displays Blagojevich’s name, though the paint has weathered through the years. Also listed: Chicago Mayor Richard Daley. Soon both those names will be outdated.

“As soon as the weather breaks, we’re programming to have the sign repainted,” said Tony Ianello, the port’s executive director.

Ianello said there’s no decision yet on what the new sign will say. He said the board will make that decision,  under “consultation with the new mayor when he takes office, and we’ve just had a new governor elected now for the first time.”

So Rahm Emanuel and Pat Quinn will likely get a say on whether South Side commuters see their names everyday, or whether the sign just says “Illinois International Port District.”

Emanuel’s press secretary had no comment at this time. A spokesperson for Quinn says the governor “would prefer his name is left off the signage.”
