Couples wanting to make their relationships official packed Chicago courtrooms on Wednesday.

They were looking to celebrate their special day on this once-in-a-century date: December 12, 2012.

Nina Vogler and Jose Torres arrived at the Cook County Clerk’s office early in the morning hoping to be the first ones in line, but they had to wait for over an hour until their small ceremony began.

“We saw a lot more people coming in, so it’s like we made it here before a larger rush,” Torres said.

The couple was engaged for almost three years and planned their small ceremony a week ago.  They said out of all the dates, Wednesday Dec. 12, 2012  was unique.

“I just feel it is a special date that will never come again. Where is the same date, with the month and year?” Vogler said.

Melody Paterson and Sean Jones planned their wedding a year ago.

“Well, we thought it will be good luck and maybe increase our fortune,” Paterson said.

Some couples traveled from nearby suburbs because their local cook county courtrooms were so busy.
