The leader of a local education group is seeking political office again. Chicago Public Radio’s Natalie Moore reports.

Phillip Jackson unsuccessfully ran for Congress several years ago. Now, the head of the nonprofit Black Star Project is running for state representative in the South Side’s 26th District.

He says his primary focus is money for education.

JACKSON: The funding is not what it should be, not what it needs to be in order to ensure that our children are properly educated throughout the state of Illinois.

Chicago Mayor Richard Daley appointed Jackson to run the Chicago Housing Authority from 1999 to 2000. Before that, he was the chief of staff of Chicago Public Schools.

The election is February 5. Incumbent Elga Jefferies is seeking re-election.
