Aetna will not offer plans on Illinois’s marketplace in 2017. The news comes after other critical changes in the Obamacare marketplace: UnitedHealthcare left. Land of Lincoln Health closed its doors. And last year, Blue Cross, Blue Shield stopped offering its popular PPO plans. Northwestern Professor, Joel Shalowitz says for some people, Aetna may have been the only plan left that they could afford and included their current doctor.

“With that gone, it may pose real problems for people who want to keep their doctors and choose a plan on the exchange,” he said.

As of now, there are six insurers set to provide plans in 2017. Aetna says it will continue to sell insurance off the Affordable Care Act marketplace.
