The Chicago-based HistoryMakers is the largest video oral history of black Americans. Its digital archives will now be accessible to 10 universities across the country. The 2,700 interviews are with African American trailblazers in a variety of fields.

The 9,000 hours of tape “will totally transform what people know about the black experience,” says Julieanna Richardson, HistoryMaker Founder. She says often black success stories tend to focus on civil rights. HistoryMakers records people in business, science, music and the arts.

The archive of video, from President Barack Obama to the oldest living black cowboy, will be made available to the faculty and students at Northwestern University and University of Chicago, among others.
