After recent Israeli and Palestinian elections, it seems many of the key players have changed. What else has changed? Where do we go from here? Rashid Khalidi is Director of the Middle East Institute at Columbia University and author of the forthcoming book, The Iron Wall: The Story of the Palestinian Struggle for Statehood. His most recent publications include Resurrecting Empire: Western Footprints and America’s Perilous Path in the Middle East (Beacon Press, 2004) and Palestinian Identity: The Construction of Modetn National Consciousness (Columbia University Press, 1997). Khalidi is past President of the Middle East Studies Association, was an advisor to the Palestinian delegation to the Madrid and Washington Arab-Israeli peace negotiations from October 1991 until June 1993, and is editor of the Journal of Palestine Studies.
