Curious City Riverview: When curious citizen Ross Brodt moved to Chicago’s Roscoe Village he heard about an old theme park called Riverview. A bar near his house sported a mural of the park’s roller coasters. That got him thinking about the park, and he later sent Curious City a long list of things he’d like to know about Riverview. The team compressed that list into this modest question: What are the origins of Riverview park and why was it torn down? Rick Kogan frequented the park in his youth and is happy to go back in time with a pair of authors who’ve written about Riverview, Chuck Wlodarcyzk and Victoria Wolcott. They’ll also be joined by Curious City dream team, Shannon Heffernan and Jennifer Brandel for an hour of pure amusement. We’d love to hear your Riverview memories also. Share them by calling 312-923-9239 or on Twitter using #AfternoonShift.

Woodstock: If you caught Woodstock Willie’s forecast earlier this month, we’re in for an early spring. Groundhog Day is one of the busiest times of year in Woodstock, Illinois. Crowds gather on the second of February to catch Willie’s forecast and pay tribute to the movie Groundhog Day, which was filmed in the far northwest suburb about two decades ago. WBEZ’s Eilee Heikenen-Weiss and Tim Akimoff wondered what life was like the rest of the year, so they recently spent a day wandering Woodstock’s historic square after the festivities died down. They share their observations with Rick on The Afternoon Shift.
