Aldermen Tackle Police Accountability Reform

Some Aldermen are trying to get a firmer grasp on police accountability in Chicago--learning how it works, and what should be fixed. 

In a hearing of the subcommittee on police accountability reform on Wednesday, they mostly focused on a proposal from Alderman Leslie Hairston which would replace the current agency that investigates claims of police misconduct. The proposal would replace it with a new one that would fall under civilian oversight. 

University of Chicago law professor Craig Futterman, who helped craft the ordinance, explained how the changes would work and answered aldermen’s questions.
