After another violent weekend in the city of Chicago, one of the latest to be killed is the son of a Chicago Police Officer.

Police say 19-year-old Arshell Dennis was shot in the chest early Sunday on Chicago’s South Side and pronounced dead at a hospital within the hour. Police spokesman Anthony Guglielmi says Dennis’ father, Officer Arshell Dennis, worked patrol with police Superintendent Eddie Johnson in the Gresham neighborhood on the city’s South Side. The superintendent said in a statement that Dennis was a “good kid” with “a promising future as a journalist.”

The victim’s grandfather said he had planned to head back to college St. John’s University in New York on Sunday afternoon.
