The MCA is proud to partner with the Chicago Humanities Festival during its 21st season focusing on the body. As part of this partnership, the MCA co-presents South African visual artist Nandipha Mntambo in conversation with CHF Artistic Director Lawrence Weschler.

Mntambo had childhood dreams of becoming a forensic pathologist, and this preoccupation with the body came to shape her artistic practice. In 2004 with Idle, she began creating haunting sculptures cast out of cowhide. These feminine body forms (usually her own) appear flowing and supple; taken as a series they are a provocative inquiry into both gender and culture. Her later work has examined these same issues in different mediums including bronze, video, and photography. Learn more about Mntambo’s work and ideas during this engaging dialogue.
