Question. If you eat a sucrose molecule in the woods…does it make a sound?

The answer is yes.

The sucrose sound and others are the work of Josh Kurutz.

He’s the technical director of the Biomolecular Nuclear Magnetic Resonance facility at the University of Chicago.

The sounds are a byproduct of his research to determine the structures of different molecules.

We took a trip to his lab to listen to things too small to be seen.
