Marshall Field’s fans got some bad news today.

“This store will be called — uniquely — Macy’s on State Street,” says Terry Lungren, chairman, president and chief executive officer of Federated Department Stores.

Lundgren’s statement dashed any hopes that the State Street icon would keep its name.

Store executives promised to hold on to Field’s traditions like the Walnut Room Christmas tree and window displays.

Macy’s signs will start appearing inside the store this summer.
