Bail is being denied for a man accused of shooting two Chicago police officers in the head earlier this week.  Prosecutors are charging 27-year-old Daniel Jones with two counts of attempted murder of a police officer.

Cook County State’s Attorney Anita Alvarez says Jones shot at the officers late Monday night, hitting both in the head.  She spoke alongside Chicago Police Superintendent Garry McCarthy after Jones was denied bail.

“The superintendent and I both feel very fortunate that we are not here today announcing the charges in the murder of two Chicago police officers.  These officers came within inches, probably less than that, from sustaining much more serious and even fatal wounds,” said Alvarez.

Superintendent McCarthy says after being shot, the two officers chased Jones.  Jones got away, but McCarthy says the injured officers provided descriptions and identified Jones as the alleged offender in photos and line-ups.  McCarthy says the officers are “exceptional…run of the mill Chicago cops.”
