The Chicago Bears have released veteran defensive tackle Tommie Harris from the team. Harris was a three-time Pro Bowl pick, but in the past few years he’s been struggling with injuries including knee and hamstring problems.

WBEZ sports contributor Cheryl Raye-Stout says Harris also seemed to have lost some of his drive.

“So he was no longer part of the Eschelon of the team, which is really sad because when he first came on the scene, you thought he was going to be a special player, possibly a hall of famer,” she said.

The Bears also released offensive tackle Kevin Shaffer and linebacker Hunter Hillenmeyer. Hillenmeyer suffered from a serious concussion last year and was out for much of the season.
