The Chicago Bulls didn’t beat a whole lot of opponents on the basketball court this year, but they did beat the odds with some lucky ping pong balls last night. The Bulls somehow nabbed the top spot in the NBA Draft by winning the league’s annual lottery - even though they had less than a 2% chance of getting the number one pick. Now it’s debate time in Chicago. There are two hot prospects widely anticipated to go first - native son Derrick Rose, and Kansas State star Michael Beasley. Over the last several year, Bulls fans have complained about a lack of inside scoring. Beasley would fill that hole nicely, judging by the big man’s domination at the college level. But the Bulls once-heralded backcourt duo of Kirk Hinrich and Ben Gordon hasn’t exactly been lighting the league on fire of late either. Enter Rose. The Englewood native won two state championships at Simeon Career Academy, and led Memphis the college national championship game. One NBA coach reportedly calls the point guard “Jason Kidd with a jumpshot.” Of course, Paxson could trade the pick, or even draft someone else, but judging by the Bulls website right now, that doesn’t seem likely.
