Community Counseling Centers of Chicago, known as C4, has struck a deal with County Care. Country Care is Cook County’s Health and Hospitals System’s managed care program for Medicaid recipients.

Earlier this month C4 said it would close at the end of May. Clients were worried about where they would get care in a city where the mental health system was already stretched thin.

C4 says it will serve its current patients as well as new County Care patients.

WBEZ reached County Care Client Sam Wickham at the C4 drop-in center, just minutes after the center got the news. Some people were giggling, others released a huge sigh of relief. Wickman said clients had many questions, but after weeks of stress and sadness, they were enjoying the news.

One staff member, who wished to remain unnamed, said she was happy to hear services would remain available. But she says that relationships with clients have been damaged because of broken trust and would take time to repair.
