About half a dozen candidates from the March primary are disputing the election results.

In an event organized by the Cook County Republican Party, the group made a list of demands ranging from a vote recount to a possible new election.

Some suggest candidates who lost by less than 5 percent in the primary be put on the November ballot.

Frank Avila lost a primary for the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District.

He wants to represent candidates and file a lawsuit against Cook County.

“But county-wide races, when we’re talking about a spread of 400 or 500 votes and you’re talking about a systematic ballot loss, you may have to have a new election” he says. “I know that’s very costly. I know that if we carry the conclusion here, that this was not a fair, accurate election, that’s going to be very hard for the public to swallow.”

The chairman of the Chicago Election Board says the primary results have been certified to the state and there will be no new election.

If the state were to order a recount, it would have to be done by Monday.
