Carlos Prieto, Mexican-born world-renowned cellist, discusses his book The Adventures of a Cello.  Mr. Prieto recounts the adventurous life of his beloved “Cello Prieto,” tracing its history, beginning in 1720, through each of its previous owners from Antonio Stradivari to himself.  He also recounts his remarkable career and relationships with illustrious personalities, including Igor Stravinsky, Dmitry Shostakovich, Pablo Casals, and Mstislav Rostropovich.

Mr. Prieto’s program includes a recital of solo cello works by Bach. 

Mr. Prieto is presented in partnership by the Consulate General of Mexico, the Chicago Public Library Foundation, and the Chicago Public Library.  The Chicago Public Library is proud to participate in the commemoration of Mexico 2010.
