Reunification and the fall of the wall redefined the museum landscape in Germany, a process that continues to this day. Since World War II, significant parts of Berlin’s vast museum collections were divided into East and West, and each side pursued an independent reorganization strategy for its own collection. Bringing these disparate parts together has sparked what is likely the most substantial planning and construction operation that has ever been undertaken in the museum world. This lecture highlights the challenges and opportunities that result from Berlin museums’ extensive restructuring projects.

Recorded Thursday, December 04, 2008 at The Art Institute of Chicago-Fullerton Hall.
