Changes in local immigration enforcement may mean that some families will have to travel much farther to say goodbye to their loved ones being deported. On Friday activists who normally pray for immigrants who are processed for deportation at a federal facility in Broadview learned that those detainees were 70 miles south at a facility in Kankakee. Immigration activists said the added distance will make it more difficult for detainees’ relatives to visit with them before they’re shackled and bused to planes that will take them out of the United States.
