Closing arguments continue today in the hiring fraud trial of four former city of Chicago officials. The defense will challenge allegations that Robert Sorich and three codefendants illegally installed campaign workers in city jobs.

Defense Attorney Tom Durkin reminded jurors they must put aside feelings they may have about Sorich’s boss—Mayor Richard Daley.

“I asked them to separate out their duties as jurors from their duties as voters. There’s a big difference,” he says.

Durkin early in the trial claimed federal prosecutors were using the case to unseat Daley.

This morning, the remaining defense attorneys will take the helm. Following that, the prosecution will rebut their arguments. Jury deliberations could begin as early as this afternoon.
