By Instituto Cervantes of ChicagoThe Chicago Flamenco Festival returns in 2012! The most acclaimed flamenco stars from Spain and North America once again make the cold Chicago winter sizzle with the passion of flamenco music, dance performances, films, and workshops. The festival celebrates the art of flamenco in the intimate auditoriums of the Instituto Cervantes, Flamenco Arts Center, and Old Town School of Folk Music.
The Diego Amador Trio, featuring the renowned flamenco singer and pianist, kicked off the festival! Born into a gypsy family in Seville, Spain, Amador was raised steeped in flamenco tradition. By age 11, he had mastered the guitar and several other musical instruments and was already playing drums in the group Pata Negra. Experience this unique multi-talented musician from Spain in a rare Chicago performance.
In addition to opening the festival, the Diego Amador Trio played another concert the day after. A portion of that performance is available here:
Recorded Thursday, February 9 and Friday, February 10, 2012 at the Instituto Cervantes.
