As Chicago Foundation for Women’s centerpiece event, the Annual Luncheon and Symposium draws more than 2,000 people each year. This year the Foundation was excited to welcome Denyce Graves, renowned mezzo-soprano and star of the opera Margaret Garner to its 23rd celebration of women and girls.

Chicago Foundation for Women is a collaborative partner on the Chicago premiere of the dramatic and heart-wrenching opera Margaret Garner. As a partner on this groundbreaking American production, the Foundation embarks on a year-long community discussion on the legacy of slavery and the difficult issues that women continue to face today.

This year’s symposium event, The Art of Social Justice: How Creativity Complements Advocacy, was also recorded and can be heard by clicking here.

Recorded Friday, October 31, 2008 at McCormick Place.
