About the 28th Annual Luncheon: In 2009, the New York Times best-selling book, “Half the Sky: Turning Oppression into Opportunity for Women Worldwide” was released and started an international movement that highlighted the oppression facing women and girls around the globe. As co-authors of the book and inspiration for the movement, wife-and-husband team Sheryl WuDunn and Nicholas D. Kristof have helped the world see that the key to human progress lies in unleashing the potential of women and girls.
