Chicago Looking For Volunteers To Count The Homeless

The City of Chicago is looking for volunteers to help with its yearly count of homeless people living in the city. Getting the number is a two-part process that takes place in one night. First, shelters count the number of residents they have. Second, hundreds of volunteers break into groups, stopping in places where homeless people tend to set up camps. Alisa Rodriguez, who heads the city’s homeless services program, said homeless communities are constantly shifting, so it’s important to keep track of where they are. The year’s count takes place January 26.
