In light of Friday’s deadly shooting at a Colorado screening of The Dark Knight Rises, WBEZ talked to moviegoers waiting to see the film at the Navy Pier IMAX.  WBEZ asked moviegoers waiting in line for the highly anticipated film if the tragedy would affect their theater-going experience.

Reactions were mixed:

“No, it doesn’t effect how I’ll enjoy the movie, but it does make me nervous about going to the movie.”

“Hopefully I’m not thinking about it at all and once the movie’s over, I’ll think about the people and their families out there.”

“It happened during a [scene of the movie with shooting], so I’m sure that’ll go through my mind as that comes up.”

“I just think it’s crazy that in 2012, people just can’t go to a movie theater and enjoy a film without worring about their lives being in danger.”

“I don’t know, you can’t [stop screenings of the movie] across the nation, but somehow there’s got to be some recognition for what has happened.”

“I don’t think it’s something that’ll carry over from movie theater to movie theater so, we didn’t see any danger behind coming out today and we enjoyed the movie.”

“I just think that was a random act of violence by a sick person and I think we should lead our lives the way we lead ‘em.”

Throughout the day, WBEZ tried to reach multiple movie theater companies for comment.

Only AMC replied with a written statement:

“For the safety and security of our guests and associates, we are actively working with local law enforcement in communities throughout the nation and under the circumstances we are reaching out to all of our theatres to review our safety and security procedures. Being a safe place in the community for all our guests is a top priority at AMC and we take that responsibility very seriously.”
