Chicago native Rick Wojick used to turn on people to music during his days in college radio. Now he helps people have fun with all kinds of sounds through Dusty Groove America, his Wicker Park record store. Wojick sits in this month as Radio M guest co-host, and shares some of his favorite soul-infused music. Also, a conversation with Ethan Holtzman, the man behind the L.A. based band Dengue Fever. Holtzman became smitten with 1960’s Cambodian pop and rock when he visted that country in the late 1990s. Cambodian rock took its cue from the surf rock, Motown, soul and psychedelic music blasting from Armed Forces Radio during the Vietnam War. But when the notorious Khmer Rouge took over Cambodia, the music as well as many of its creators died. Now it’s alive and well in Dengue Fever’s music.
