Some parents and teachers are sending a message to Chicago Public Schools officials to slow down.

Last week, CPS announced plans to merge or close fourteen schools throughout the city.

Monday night, parents, teachers and students formed a standing room only audience to speak their minds before a task force charged with analyzing the closings.

Lisa Dimberg is a teacher at Carpenter Elementary, one of the schools which could be affected by the changes. Dimberg said teachers and parents first heard about the plan in the newspaper.

“And when I called them out on that they said apologies,” Dimberg said. “I said baloney. Don’t apologize to us. That’s procedure for CPS. And I’m sick of it. They have no respect for anybody.”

The task force wants to present recommendations before anything binding takes place.
