Hundreds of people demonstrated on Chicago’s West Side over the weekend to bring more attention to the recent deaths of Michael Brown and Eric Garner.

Area pastors encouraged congregants to join a march shutting down the intersection of Madison and Pulaski. Demonstrators say this is only the beginning of a movement that’ll go beyond holding signs in the streets.

Thousands of church-goers also ditched their traditional services and flooded streets all throughout Chicago’s South Side on Sunday. Their pastors urged them to march in solidarity with protesters who for weeks now have been bringing attention to cases of black men killed by police. Pastors say the marches should have taken place decades ago.
