Last month Chicago Public Radio kicked-off a new live event series, hosting A Preview to Chicago’s World Music Festival. Radio M host Tony Sarabia was joined by Festival coordinator Mike Orlove to talk about how things come together each year & introduce us to three amazing acts: Habib Wardack and Puran Vyas, Mar Caribe, and Lamajamal. Each performed an incredible set, traveling around the world several times over. Here are some of our favorite pictures from the night - notice how everyone returned to the stage to collaborate on a final piece; it was great!

This month, we’re turning more literary and have teamed up with our friends over at Stop Smiling magazine to host Paris Review editor Nathaniel Rich, who will read from his new book The Mayor’s Tongue. It’s his first novel, and has been lauded as “daring and wonderfully weird” by Interview magazine. I just finished reading it and can honestly say it was great. After Nat reads, Jonathan Messinger, who reviewed the book for the last issue of Stop Smiling, will sit down and talk with the author, then Featherproof Press will show-off the Constance Eakins book jacket project they’ve been collaborating on. It’s definitely going to be a fun night - topped off with an after-party down the street, hosted by Flameshovel Records. What else are you doing on a Sunday night? Come spend the evening with Chicago Public Radio! It all takes place October 19. For tickets and more information, visit our Events calendar.
