I’ve often thought of public radio as one of the more sustainable resources out there — our impact on the environment is pretty low (except for the occasional noise pollution), we’re community driven, and all this year we’re doing even more reporting on the environment through our series Chicago Matters: Growing Forward! I know many of you have been following the series and this Saturday I’m hoping you’ll come along with us when we take a short walk down Navy Pier to the Chicago Green Festival! We’ll be broadcasting live from noon-1 pm (a big thanks to these people) and talking with all sorts of people who’ve caught the green wave. Green Fest co-organizer Alisa Gravitz will explain the eureka! moment that led to the creation of the festival and Georgia Malki will explain how some 150 speakers, 350 local businesses and tens of thousands of goodie bags add up to a green event. Local entrepreneurs Heidi Bailey and Ori Sivan will report from the cutting edge of Chicago’s green economy. And we’ll get the real goods on Chicago’s green rep from a great panel - our city’s Environment Commissioner Suzanne Malec-McKenna, The Chicago Reader’s Mick Dumke and Bryan Stubbs from Chicago Community Ventures, a kind of incubator for new green initiatives. Plus a live audience, maybe a little soft shoe”¦what’s not to like? If you are actually coming to Green Fest, we hope you’ll stop by the Chicago Public Radio booth to say hello.
