Five hundred and fifty seven Chicago Public School employees are being laid off today. This marks the first of two rounds of CPS layoffs aimed at closing a $475 million budget gap.

CPS spokesperson Monique Bond says the layoffs are focused on administrative positions and will not affect teachers.

She says, out of the jobs cut, over 160 are middle management and 170 are administrative positions.
