Chicago teachers have accepted  the contract agreement that ended their seven-day strike last month.

According to the Chicago Teachers Union, 79 percent  of those who cast ballots this week, voted in favor of the three-year contract.  It changes how they will be evaluated and provides job security for teachers in schools that are closed in the coming years.

The contract also lengthens the school day and year and gives teachers a 7 percent raise over three years, in addition to raises for experience and education.

Teachers went on strike last month for the first time in 25 years after negotiations with the Board of Education broke down. Key sticking points throughout were job security and tying teacher evaluations to student performance.

About 350,000 students were out of school during the strike, but will make up the days during previously scheduled breaks.

The Board of Education also must approve the contract.
