Chicago Public Schools has a new top dog. Forrest Claypool is a longtime city official. He ran the Parks District in the 1990s, oversaw the CTA during Mayor Emanuel’s first term, and in April, became the mayor’s latest chief of staff. Now Claypool will take on what he calls the biggest challenge of his career — running the schools during a time of serious financial hardship. The district faces a $1.1 billion budget gap.
