Tens of thousands of protesters gathered in Cairo’s Tahrir Square today and continued to defy the government-imposed curfew. A much bigger and potentially violent demonstration is slated to take place tomorrow. President Hosni Mubarak showed no signs of leaving office. Earlier today, he named a new interior minister, although many, including the foreign minister and minister of defense, remain in their posts.

Over the weekend, inmates from Egypt’s most notorious prisons descended on the streets. And the government essentially shut down Al-Jazeera.

Ahmed Rehab joins us by phone from a suburb of Cairo. He’s been in Egypt since the protests began.  He’s the executive director of the Chicago chapter of the Council of American-Islamic Relations. He’s been participating in the protests and writng about it on his blog called “Mindful of Dreams.”
