Chicago chefs and restaurateurs won some of the top honors at the national James Beard Awards ceremony Monday night.

The awards, widely seen as the Oscars of the culinary world, were presented at Chicago’s Civic Opera House, where the event moved in 2015 after being based in New York for more than 20 years.

Greg Wade of Publican Quality Bread picked up the medal for Outstanding Baker.

Kevin Boehm and Rob Katz won Outstanding Restaurateur for their restaurants including Boka, Momotaro and Girl and the Goat.

Married couple Beverly Kim and Johnny Clark won Best Chef: Great Lakes for their Avondale eatery Parachute.

North Carolina chef Ashley Christensen took home the Outstanding Chef honor. She opened Poole’s Diner more than a decade ago in Raleigh.

Philadelphia’s Zahav, with its modern Israeli cuisine, won the Outstanding Restaurant award. The honor comes two years after Zahav co-owner and Chef Michael Solomonov received the Outstanding Chef award.

This year’s Best New Restaurant was Frenchette in New York, and the Lifetime Achievement Award went to Patrick O’Connell, who owns The Inn at Little Washington in Virginia.
