Hours after voters reelected President Barack Obama, Chicagoans started planning trips to attend his 2013 inauguration.

Flurries of emails and social media alerts went out.

Chicagoans are booking hotels and planning to caravan to Washington, D.C. to watch Obama take the oath of office on January 21.

Schools and youth groups such as Mikva Challenge are making arrangements. And local members of the Occupy movement plan to travel to the nation’s capital with less of a celebratory agenda.

Wendell Mosby volunteered on the ground level for Obama. When the race was called on Tuesday, the jockeying began.

“I had people calling me all night. I didn’t get home to 3 a.m. and all Wednesday that’s all the communication was cause I sent the email out and people started responding, saying ‘Hey, if you get inauguration tickets, let me know,” Mosby said.

Mosby is co-chair of Chicago chapter of the Young & Powerful Group, a nonprofit dedicated to civic training. Its also a crew of dedicated Obama supporters. 

A busload of young black professionals plan to make the D.C. journey.
