City auctioning off banners

Is someone on your holiday shopping list a huge Blackhawks fan? Or maybe they’re into the comedy at The Second City.  Whatever their taste, the City of Chicago just may have a banner for you.

The city is auctioning off 20 banners that have graced Chicago street poles. Some are for the Blackhawks Stanley Cup championship, the White Sox Worlds Series win from 2005, the Chicago Marathon and the Chicago Country Music Festival.

Money from the auction will go to the Sharing It Program, which provides job training. Donations will also go toward hunger relief charities and to buy holiday gifts for needy Chicago children.

The Mayor’s Office of Special Events says the auction will close Dec. 3.  Already, a bid for one of the Blackhawks banners is up to nearly $700.  For information, visit events.
