The 95th Street Terminal is the busiest on Chicago’s Red Line, with 24-hour train service and over 1,000 bus trips on weekdays, according to the city.

In a statement, Mayor Rahm Emanuel says the investment in local transit connects “more South Side residents with jobs, education and opportunity.”

The Chicago Transit Authority is still working to secure federal funding to expand the Red Line to 130th Street, to serve more South Side residents.

The 95th Street Terminal rebuild will cost 280 million dollars in total, according to the city.

It’s expected to open to passengers in 2017.
