It was a difficult and violent weekend in Chicago in what was the deadliest of the year. Chicago police say 18 people were killed in the city, including two twin brothers, Edward and Edwin Bryant.

The 17-year-old brothers were killed in a drive-by shooting in the Old Town neighborhood, early Sunday morning.

Vince Carter is executive director of Project Education Plus and the head of the Stamps-Rhine Center, a program that offers recreational and educational activities to youth.

The brothers were regulars at the center and Edward Bryant recently played on the basketball team, the Chicago Demons, which Carter coaches.

Vince Carter joined WBEZ’s Melba Lara from the Stamps-Rhine Center.
