Listen to Chicago-area archivists and historians discuss collecting, preserving, accessing and using documents to explore the lives of African Americans and women.

Speakers include Martha Briggs from The Newberry Library, Tamar Evangelistia-Dougherty from the Black Metropolis Research Consortium, Mary Ann Johnson from Chicago Area Women’s History Council, and Christine Stansell at the University of Chicago (moderator).

Each participant gives a 10 minute presentation, drawing on their own projects to discuss what local research institutions and community organizations are doing to collect and make accessible manuscripts and other primary sources to fuel future historical narratives.
