O’Regan’s keynote lecture explores contemporary apocalypticism, including that of Jacques Derrida and René Girard. O’Regan’s examination is based on Girard’s most recent book, Battling to the End, where Girard engages the Prussian military theoretician Carl von Clausewitz. Using the interpretive key of the apocalyptic, O’Regan explores whether full blown apocalyptic emphasis is fundamentally Biblical, Girard’s modes of apocalyptic discourse, and modern forms of contemporary discourses on apocalypses.
