By Jewell WashingtonComEd said it expects to restore power to all of their customers by Thursday, amid hundreds still waiting for the lights and air conditioning to come back on.
Betsy Rigler lives in West Chicago, an area that suffered some of the worst outages after Sunday’s thunderstorm. She said her family and pets have been enduring the heat without power for almost six days.
“We ended up sleeping in the pickup for a couple hours to keep cool and bring our body temperatures down because it’s just been unbearable, but we’re managing,” she said.
Rigler said the family sleeps on the floor and uses their swimming pool to keep cool. They’ve also been running generators and calling ComEd every couple of hours to find out when power will be restored.
“We thought we were going to get it back 6 o’clock Tuesday, then they said Wednesday 5 o’clock and then they said 11 o’clock and then they said hopefully today,” Rigler added.
Rigler said ComEd informed her that power would not be restored until Thursday evening. She said she sympathizes with ComEd workers who are also putting up with the heat.
A ComEd spokesman said they are working to verify all outages by reaching out to customers.
