Some ranking Chicago cops say the police department is ready for what could be a bloody holiday weekend. That’s despite an upsurge in shootings and a union call for officers to take a pass on working extra hours.

The Fraternal Order of Police wants the city to hire more officers. Since July, it’s been calling on its 10,000 members at CPD to show unity by not volunteering to work overtime this weekend.

But Commander Karen Konow says the department will have plenty of hands on deck through Monday.

On Labor Day weekend last year, violent crime injured about 54 people and killed eight.
