A coalition of community and labor groups say they’ll support the Chicago Teachers’ Union’s upcoming strike. CTU voted Wednesday for a one-day strike on April 1st, protesting a lack of state funding. At a rally earlier Thursday, a group of activists and union leaders pledged to treat April 1st as a quote “Day of Action.”

CTU’s Jesse Sharkey says the coalition is the result of collective frustration towards the inaction of Illinois Governor Bruce Rauner.

“These aren’t new relationships, but what’s new here is a sense of urgency,” he said.
