Cook County Commissioner Richard Boykin says a new hashtag, #RespectLife, promoted by social media and public service announcements may help curb violence in Chicago. 

At the BUILD community center on Chicago’s West Side, he said it’s a small step in not only bringing attention to the damage caused by gun violence but to prevent it altogether. 

Not everyone thinks the problem can be solved through social media. A block away, resident Marcus Holmes said while it shows that some people care, it won’t change violence affecting city neighborhoods.
