The Cook County Sheriff’s Office will no longer send inmates with pending charges to state prison to be fingerprinted and photographed — and then immediately sent back. That process is known as a “turnaround.” It occurs when inmates are sentenced to serve time in state prison, but end up serving their whole sentence in Cook County jail.
