Cook County Clerk Dorothy Brown request for a raise has been rejected says according to a spokesperson for Toni Preckwinkle, the Cook County Board President.

Despite being under federal investigation, Brown asked for a raise earlier this week. Brown makes just over $100,000 annually — the same amount she’s made for the last 15 years. She hasn’t received a raise since she entered office. 

In a letter to the Cook County Board, Brown expressed frustration that she makes less than colleagues like County Sheriff Tom Dart. 

But former Alderman Dick Simpson says Dart, who hasn’t received a raise since he started a decade ago, isn’t a good comparison. 

“His office is seen as one of the better run offices in the county,” says Simpson. “Several of her employees have now been convicted of corruption that’s related to her performance as well.”
